Welcome to the home of the Riviera Triathlon Club. We are a group of people who enjoy triathlons and a friendly club atmosphere. Our abilities range from amateur to elite. Some of us are only 5 years old and others are 65. We are short, tall, skinny and carbo-loaded. The sport of triathlon is full of myths. Myth 1: You need to be extremely fit to complete a triathlon. Successfully completing a triathlon does require a certain level of fitness and training will assist. Technique is also very important. Our Mini Tri program is designed for novice triathletes of all ages who would like to try a tri and also benefit from coaching in a fun, friendly and informal environment. Click here to find out more about Wednesday Mini Tri’s. Myth 2: You need expensive gear to enter a triathlon. It is true that triathlon is a sport that can cost a lot but most of us started on an old bike or with a borrowed wetsuit. Again, Wednesday Mini Tri’s are a great way to experience the sport and a perfect source of information regarding equipment. Myth 3: Triathletes are always serious and elite. Some triathletes are but we don’t take ourselves too seriously in the country. Perhaps its the beautiful region where we live which makes us a bit more relaxed. The Super Summer Series Each year our club facilitiates a series of triathlons at various locations around East Gippsland. These races are organised by local sporting clubs and orgabnisations and act as a fund raiser for them. Click here to view this year’s race calendar. Bairnsdale Triathlon & Multi Sport Festival This annual event also features the Victorian Olympic Distance Triathlon Championships. The Riviera Triathlon Club has successfully hosted the Championships for the past two years. This event has established itself as a professionally organised race with a flavour of distinct country hospitality. The course is rated as one of the most challenging in Australia and attracts the best elite and age group triathletes in Victoria. In 2008, the first Bairnsdale Triathlon & Multi Sport Festival was launched and featured a range of sports events including bike racing, swimming and recreational cycling. The Festival is unique to Victoria and southern Australia and in 2009 features even more including a 3-Day Cycling Tour (including a criterium, ITT and 100km road race), open-water swimming, two triathlons, a kids Fun Tri and the Fun Run and Walk. There is an event for everyone regardless of age and sporting prowess. |
