SPLASH N DASH RACE 2 13/01/10
A great turn out of competitors for race 2 of the Splash n Dash series, all welcoming the cooler weather for racing. It was typically windy down at Sandridge Beach causing choppy swim conditions for the athletes, however, this did not get in the way of some fast results.
Sarah Newman led from start to finish in the woman’s Tryaquathlon event finishing in a time of 29:53. Kelly Wickham came in 2nd and Shari Lofthouse 3rd. In the men’s race, Dale Verhagan was a convincing winner with over a 2:30min gap between himself and second placegetter Nathaniel Slater and young Lachlan Huell was 3rd.
Ben Wright was the overall winner in the 5km run/600m swim/2.5km run. Sean Smee was 2nd overall after a very fast first run leg and was leading into the swim. Wright was able to bridge the 38 sec gap in the swim to come out ahead of Smee and was able to hold off a fast approaching Smee to finish in a very fast time of 35:04, 16 sec ahead of Smee. Carl Fannon in 3rd finishing in a solid time of 37:07
In the women’s event, Sarah Harrow lead from start to finish completing the event in a time of 42.55, followed by Vicky Inglis 44.51 and Mel Ibrihim in 3rd 45:53

SPLASH N DASH RACE 1 9/12/09
The sun was shining for race 1 of the Splash n Dash Aquathlon series – (who says we don’t put on good weather for our events!) not too windy and our blubbery Port Phillip Bay creatures were nowhere to been seen – perfect conditions for some fast racing.
Congratulations to all those who competed, it’s great to see some familiar faces and new ones participating for the first time.
Race 1 kicked off with the Tryaquathlon event, where Kaely Kennedy dominated the first leg in the swim. Jessica Cox made some ground on Kaely with a very fast run leg. Kaely was able to break away again in the swim and maintained that lead throughout the second run. Amyee Bush was in third.
Nathan Percy won the mens tryaquathlon in a very fast time of 20.52, Dale Verhagan, one of our series sponsors came in second and Paul Noonan third.
The long course event saw some fierce competition amongst the women. Accomplished ironman triathlete, Elly Franks and ex surf life saving champion Naantali Marshall were neck and neck after the swim. Ellys ironman endurance proved to be too much for Naantali on the run leg and Elly was able to pull away and maintain that lead throughout. Jenni Erskine came in Third overall.
The mens event saw Ben Wright take out line honours in 29.32, his coach Campbell Maffatt (clearly doing a great job with Ben) second, with a time of 30.21 and Sean Smee third 31min.
We only had one team entry – The Petersons who were able to go home with some great prizes.
Merry Christmas everyone and see you all at Race 2 on the 13th January 2010
